Vintage Italian Hand Carved Carnelian Shell Cameo in 18K Frame
When we come upon Cameos it is all about the subject, the detail and the relief. We found this Victorian Era Lady theme to be very compelling and finely executed. Which comes to detail and relief. The image and accenting components should all be crisp and realistic, and the relief should have the image standing-out from the underlying shell to provide a 3D effect, but not overly so. This beauty met all of our demanding criteria.
We estimate the age of this Cameo to be 1950s or 1960s which is consistent with the estate's history of its purchase in Italy. It is beautifully executed and mounted in a marked 18K Gold Frame. The backside allows for use as a Pin, or the attached bail would allow it to be worn as a pendant. Beautiful either way. This pendant does not include a chain.
This is a good Cameo size at 32mm x 26mm. Not to big; not too small; just right.
