Stunning Antique Faceted Watermelon Tourmaline on 14K Tourmaline Beaded Chain
We love it, love it, love it! A lot! You will, too!
Comes this enchantingly lovely Sautoir Styled antique necklace from an O'ahu Estate. All I can say is - Wow! Tourmaline is a highly desirable Gemstone in its own right, especially in its Greens and Reds. But the natural crystal usually has an outer green band, clear to slightly tinted inner band, and a red center. But not always is it so perfectly formed in this "Bullseye" or "Watermelon" pattern as seen here. Too, when this form of Tourmaline is used for jewelry, it is often just sliced and left in the rough, or at most polished. Rare to find a beautiful Checkerboard Patterned facets on both front and back. Estate tells us it was made before 1950. We believe earlier than that based upon its styling and craftsmanship.
The chain is unusual. Dubbed the "Crinkle" Chain, take a look and you can see the distinctive crinkled appearance that inspired the name. The chain is further enhanced by 3 faceted natural Tourmaline Beads: two by the clasp, and one at the bottom of the chain on an additional 3/4 inch drop which suspends the Watermelon Tourmaline. Can't say enough about it.
Google it. Look for another or similar anywhere. There’s nothing of a similar style that holds a candle to this piece. Nothing. Not even close!
This Watermelon Tourmaline shows the minor inclusions that testify to its natural origin. They are evenly distributed and reflect light beautifully. Too, the play of light on the Gemstone affects which color is highlighted. Light to dark and back again. The large Tourmaline measures approximately 17mm x 16mm x 6mm and has a weight of approximately 12 Carats. A fine, fine piece. The 14k Yellow Gold Chain measures 17" to the drop, with an additional .75 (3/4) inch drop to the Gemstone.
