Vintage 14k Hand Carved Cameo Dangle Earrings
we've been told that we are very picky about Cameos. And it's true. We are. As we say in many of our write-ups it just seems that the detail of a Cameo: Ring, Earrings, Pendant, Bracelet, however displayed, should be crisp and have a natural appearance. We pass up many Cameos that don't meet that bar.
But these do, and then some. These lovely, lovely earrings are from the early 1950s and were, as many are, acquired on a trip to Italy. These are unusually well-made. We are also picky about the mounting of Cameo Earrings - just too many are flimsily made - and here, too, these offer a nice surprise. The backs are solid. Not often seen, and a hallmark of well-made jewelry. The hand-carved shell Cameos are inset into prong-bezels and have a decorative gold-twist trim. The tops of the earrings are stylized Fleur-de-Lis.
The earrings have a length of ~22mm top-to-bottom and a width of ~10mm across the Cameo frame. They have 14k Butterfly/Friction Backs that are marked J.M.S. but we believe that is the maker of the backs, not the Cameo.
