Antique Victorian Era Hand Carved Coral Bacchante Pendant or Brooch In 14K Gold Frame
So very gorgeous. To the average tourist traveling the Mediterranean and making port-call in Naples a must-have souvenir was the beautiful hand-carved conch-shell Cameos for which Italy is famous. But to the upscale buyer it was the delicately colored pink or orangish-red of either the rare Angel Skin or Sardinian Coral that was the true prize.
This piece most likely dates to the last quarter of the 1800s of the Victorian Era. It is a beautifully and masterfully carved Bacchante (a female follower of Bacchus) Lady in profile of natural and untreated Coral. The carving is exquisite and cameo in pristine condition without issue. The cameo suspends from a 14K chain weighing 2.2 grams. The cameo measures 1.25 x 1 (1 1/4 x 1) inch (31.75mm x 25.4mm).
Also has pin closure so that the cameo could be worn as a brooch.
