Vintage Like-New Angel Skin Coral Cameo Ring
An extraordinary piece of vintage jewelry to be appreciated by even the most discerning collector! Amazingly, this ring is approximately 60 years old. It was acquired while the original owners were abroad on Government assignment and living in Naples and Brindisi, Italy in the early 60s. As well-to-do "locals" of Naples, they found and purchased only the best pieces of jewelry that the towns had to offer. We are told that upon returning to the US in the mid-60s it was kept in its velvet pouch in the lady's jewelry box. She would take it out a couple times a year to admire its beauty and to remember Italy, but she would not wear the ring, fearing it would be lost. This accounts for its Like-New, pristine, appearance.
The natural and untreated Coral is exquisitely hand carved by a master carver. The level of detail is extraordinary. Photos really don't do justice to the beautiful high-relief or the ultra-fine level of flawless detail.
This is a large cameo as ring-cameos go, measuring 21.5mm x 17.5mm. It is mounted in a 14K gold basket setting, typical for these pieces, but having significantly more "heft" to its weight, weighing a total of 7.9 grams. The ring is a size 7.5 (7 1/2).
