Vintage 14K 25-Carat Star Sapphire Cabochon Ring
Our estate client tells us this ring dates through the family to at least 1950 and is possibly older. We'll take the 1950s to call it Vintage, but it's very possibly antique (over 75 years). And it is in remarkably fine condition. Doubtful it has been worn more than once or twice in the last few dozen years.
This is a large natural Star Sapphire. The color is a uniformly colored bluish-gray. We can see naturally occurring inclusions in the stone which the photographs show, but that is to be expected of a stone this large. By measurement formula in-the-setting the Star Sapphire is easily over 25-Carats. Most importantly, however, in judging a Star Sapphire is - as you might expect - the Star. And this stone has a beautiful well-center six-point star which, in daylight, it is brilliant. The Star Sapphire measures 16mm x 16mm x 12mm - Big. It is set into a 14K Yellow Gold Setting accented by a ruffled collar.
This ring is a size 5.75 (5 3/4) and has an overall weight of 9.4 grams.
Because filtered studio lighting doesn't well illustrate the quality of the Star we are providing a video taken in natural light. Just click the link below and enjoy.
