Antique Carved-Coral Peony Ring in 14K Gold Setting
Antique hand-carved Red Coral. Think Sotheby's, Christie's, and other high-end auction houses. THAT's where pieces of this quality are usually found. We always consider ourselves so very fortunate to host pieces like this for a little while until their new homes are found. Hand-made, one-of-a-kind natural and untreated carved Red Coral in the form of a Peony Flower.
The Peony has, for ages, been important in Chinese culture. This stunning flower is an official emblem of China, and it plays a big role in many holidays and religious traditions. It’s the flower with the longest continual use in Eastern culture, and it’s tied in deeply with royalty and honor in those societies. The Chinese name for Peony even translates to “most beautiful”.
The ring dates to the early 1950s or earlier. The Peony is seated in a custom made 14K prong setting. Examine the pictures to appreciate the amazing detail and craftsmanship. The ring is a size 6.25 (6 1/4) and has a weight of 12.8 grams.
We did a cursory internet search for similar rings and we did find one - but not nearly as detailed. We've attached a screen-grab with asking price. Over 3x our (always low) pricing.
