3-Carat Kyanite Gemstone Ring in Vintage Yellow Gold Setting
We love this ring!
We've discussed in our jewelry blog the very wide range of precious and semi-precious colored gemstones that are candidates for mounting in jewelry. Too often buyers stay within traditional selection boundaries and opt for Rubies, Sapphires, Topaz, Citrine, and Amethyst. While certainly beautiful stones, there are so many more beautiful stones that merit attention.
This is such an example. When we met with our client to purchase several estate pieces this was one of the pieces offered in negotiations. We immediately fell in love. An absolutely gorgeous blue reminiscent of Burmese Sapphire.
Kyanite and Sapphire have been mistaken for one another since the discovery of Kyanite in the late 1700s. Its name is taken for the Greek word for dark blue, Kyanos. It has been a favorite gem of royalty and collectors for generations.
This is a gorgeous 3-Carat Kyanite, probably from Nepal. It measures approximately 10mm x 8mm x 4mm and is VS-SI in clarity. This natural Kyanite appears to be completed untreated.
The gemstone is mounted in a very pretty and finely crafted vintage setting of 10K Yellow Gold. Gemstone and Setting are beautifully complementary. The ring is a size 6.25 (6 1/4). From our discussion with the estate we believe this ring dates to the late 1950s.
