Vintage 14K Rolo Chain with Watermelon Tourmaline Slice Pendant Framed in 18K.
We like Rolo Chains - lots. They are finely made and have beautiful symmetry. Rolo Chains have circular links. Each circle in the chain is joined in a direction opposite to the one beside it. This adds both texture and thickness while maintaining symmetry. Nice.
The Tourmaline Watermelon Slice Pendant, according to the Estate, dates to around 1950. The chain is a later and very nice addition. We've told you about the chain, so let's talk a bit about the pendant. Tourmaline is a highly desirable gemstone and typically is found in one of 3 primary colors: Green, Pink or Red - also called Rubellite in that color, and Clear. This is a "Slice" from a natural, rough, Tourmaline Gem Crystal that was surface-polished and mounted. It is called Watermelon Tourmaline because all three colors: Green, Clear, and Red, are present, and resemble a slice of Watermelon. The visible inclusions are natural to the crystal and define its individual and unique character. It is custom mounted in an 18K Yellow Gold Frame.
The 14k Yellow Gold Rolo Chain is approximately 18" in length and has a weight of approximately 3.4 grams. The Tourmaline measures approximately 15mm x 13mm. Chain and Pendant together weight approximately 4.7 grams.
