Antique Green Spinel Oval Cut Solitaire in 18K Yellow Gold
The client estate tells us this ring dates to around the Second World War. A beautiful antique ring. First thing to notice is the 8-prong Belcher Setting. Some refer to it as a Buttercup Setting for its resemblance to the Buttercup Flower. But both are old-school settings, dating to Victorian times.
The setting is crafted in 18K Yellow Gold. You can see the purity mark on the inside of the setting in the last photograph. Beautifully executed with detail which, though a bit worn from the years, still has the classic look of a timeless beauty.
The gemstone is a natural Green Spinel. Not often seen, but a lovely, lovely stone. It is Oval Cut and measures approximately 11mm x 7mm. Overall the face of the ring measures 14mm x 10mm. Nice presence. Too, it is substantial for its weight, tipping the scales at 5.88 grams. It will have a comfortable, and comfortably weighty, feel on the finger. This lovely is a size 6 and could be up-down sized by your jeweler if needed.
