Vintage Ming's Carved Jadeite Brooch in Diamond Studded Setting
When it comes to Jade in Hawai'i when you say Ming's you've said enough.
Ming's Jewelers was an Honolulu icon for over 30 years, with the last store closing in 1999. Jade, Pearl, and mixed-gem jewelry designed by Wook Moon, and pieces of vintage Ming's jewelry, are highly prized for their quality and enduring timelessness. To have Ming's in your collection speaks volumes about your appreciation for style that is never out-of-date.
This is a beautiful vintage carved Jadeite Brooch by Ming's. Further, we are told by the estate that this is one of the very early pieces that was personally created by Wook Moon, founder of Ming's. While we cannot verify, we can say it is in the style of known pieces of his work. Too, the marking is engraved, vice stamped, in two places, again consistent with the earliest Ming's pieces.
The Natural Type-A Jadeite is a lightly striated mottled green. Green predominates and the white mottling is primarily seen under a Jade Light. It presents as a strong, deep, Apple Green. The carved Jadeite alone measures 40mm x 20mm.
The Jadeite carving appears to be that of an Aubergine. The Aubergine in Asian culture is a sign of high rank. It is also the symbol of rebirth and has also been associated with fertility and rejuvenation.
The custom made setting is in 14K Yellow Gold and studded with round cut natural Diamonds. In total there are 16 natural Diamonds, 6 adorning the topmost part of the setting, and 5 along each side. Diamonds range in size from approximately 2mm to 3mm for a measured total weight slightly over .75 (3/4) carat of natural Diamonds.
The Brooch in whole measures 49mm x 25mm and has a weight of 13 grams. The vintage box is not original to the Brooch, but compliments the Brooch nicely.
