Huge Antique Sardonyx Shell Cameo In 14K Frame
Magnificent Italian-made,Victorian era Cameo in a large 14K gold frame.
This cameo is striking on many levels: the carver's skill, the artistry, the size, the beauty, the rare Sardonyx Shell - even rarer in this size! This hand-carved cameo measures 2.75 (2 3/4) inches, or nearly 70mm, in height by 2 inches (50mm) in width. It's big!! It weighs and impressive 21.6 grams. The back of the cameo is finished with both a pin to fasten onto your chosen garment, or a bail to suspend as a large pendant from your favorite gold chain. Options for wear are limited only by your imagination.
We employ a conservation approach to the cleaning of any estate piece. Where there is a natural patina from age, we do not disturb the patina. If you would prefer to restore this cameo to its original lustrous white, that can be accomplished by light cleaning with a damp cloth and mild detergent, taking care to remove any detergent residue when done with cleaning. Our recommendation is, however, to leave this timeless beauty as it is.
